Barley is a cereal cultivated all over the world mainly for beer production and livestock farming. It is probably the most ancient cereal food of man and for years has been considered a food for strength and energy.
Barley contains starch, sugars and salts such as iron and phosphorus. Also, its germ is rich in vitamin B1 and E, while its grains contain proteins.
Its bark, on the other hand, is indigestible, low in fat, but because it is digestible complex carbohydrate is used to bind a soup. So make soups with boiled vegetables and barley if you want to detoxify your body.
Barley, too, contains very little gluten and its flavor resembles that of brown rice.
Finally, barley flour is used to make bread and bake in soups while it is added to boiled.
